Scarce spectrum increases premium.

It’s clear that emerging data services will consume more network resources and spectrum. As the wireless industry is faced with a shortage of available spectrum, the remaining available spectrum will be auctioned at a high premium. Therefore, the industry will be motivated to use all viable solutions to make networks more spectrally efficient with higher usage per Hz and lower transmit time per bit.

Spectral efficiency is a multi-billion dollar issue for wireless operators.

By adopting TensorComm’s ICT™, a wireless service operator can increase network capacity (increase in the number of users and higher data rates), accompanied by a substantial savings of capital expenditure. ICT delivers dramatic improvements in spectral efficiency, thereby increasing the capacity of the network and higher data rates while also expanding network coverage and improving quality of service. This capacity relief allows the wireless operator to delay and reduce significant capital investment. It also limits network operational expenditures on expensive infrastructure and spectrum required to support subscriber growth, demand for data services, increased minutes of use and expanded coverage.

Proving dramatic gains, TensorComm’s ICT solution has been extensively lab tested and evaluated on commercial CDMA and WCDMA/HSDPA networks. These tests demonstrated gains associated with the reduction in base-station transmit power. Based on standard models for converting base-station power reductions into increased subscriber capacity, a wireless operator’s network can support up to 60% more subscribers within a cell and make all future network capacity expenditures 60% more efficient.

ICT improves capital efficiency—delays capital spending.

ICT’s proven performance improvements translate into financial benefits for the operator:

  • Each incremental handset equipped with ICT will provide not only a benefit to the consumer, but also an economic benefit to the operator. The consumer with an ICT-enabled handset will experience better call performance and improved data rates.
  • For a network of 20 million subscribers, the gross capital savings to a wireless operator is greater than $1.5 billion over a five-year period. This equates to no less than $30 in savings per incremental device enabled with ICT.
  • In addition, the operator can save approximately $350 million in network operating expenses over the five-year period due to the reduction in additional infrastructure.

Network performance impacts customer retention and acquisition.

  • A network with ICT handsets will result in improved data rates, with a reduction in dropped and blocked calls. This enhanced customer experience will drive significant additional benefits as a result of reduced churn and increased market share.
  • Additional savings are realized through the ability to avoid or delay costs for additional spectrum acquisition.
  • Given the relatively low cost of this technology compared to other commonly considered spectral efficiency tools, the operator community now has a viable option to deploy across the entire range of mobile devices, rather than just high end devices where other solutions can be cost justified.
